Job Opening for English Teacher

Introduction

We need native English speakers to teach the English language courses. Service of foreign teachers are based on a working contract. A one-year working contract consists of two semesters, each semester lasting for about 16 weeks. The Fall Semester starts at the beginning of September, 2008 and ends at the end of January, 2009. The Spring semester usually starts at the end of February, 2009 and ends at the end of June, 2009

We are the only university in Jiangxi which was rated as a Grade A University in the National Assessment of Undergraduate Programs conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2002.

This is a multi-disciplinary university focusing on economics and management, it also covers subjects in science, humanity, engineering, law, forestry, and education, although it was established as a business school in 1923. It has a total enrolment of more than 30,000 students from across the country, with 20,820 full time students and 11,000 adult students. The university has 1,800 teaching and administrative staff, among which 400 are either professors or associate professors, 52 are disciplinary leaders at provincial and ministry level, 17 experts are receivers of special allowance from the State Council, and nearly 100 faculty members and research staff are doctoral degree holders and 300 are master degree holders.

The university library boasts of a collection of more than one million volumes of books as well as the annual subscription of over 1500 journals and various electronic publications. Postgraduate and doctoral dissertations and many selected undergraduate papers are also collected. The University library is regarded as the largest specialist library in the province.

Location

The university is situated in Nanchang, the capital city of Jiangxi Province. "Nanchang" literally means "prosperity in south", has remained relatively prosperous throughout its 2,200 year history, owing to the Gan River that provides the region with flat landscapes, fertile soil, and plentiful fresh water supporting prolific grain and fish production. The Gan River flows through the west side of Nanchang northward into the Yangtze River, forming at the junction one of China's largest fresh water lake - Poyang Lake.

Job Responsibilities

Giving courses of English reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Delivering lectures to students from various specialties at an average class size of 50 students. Possible courses: Four key disciplines at undergraduate level, post-graduate and at PHD. Range of students are from intermediate or pre-advanced level.

• Teaching in the university is under the supervision of the Teaching Affairs Office. Cooperative working are expected to enable the work to be carried out smoothly.
• Normally, the weekly workload is 16 teaching hours (excluding extracurricular activities related to the courses) from Monday through Friday.
• The textbooks are provided by the University. However, suggestions, advices and recommendations are welcomed to help us find newer and more appropriate textbooks. Employing effective teaching methods, in line with the University's teaching goal. If necessary, tailoring the teaching methods according to the particular English level of the students, to fulfill the task.
• Providing a detailed teaching plan and syllabus for the course to achieve the given objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline. However, an English or Education degree or TEFL, ESL, TESOL etc. certificate holder is considered very desirable
• Degree with working experience in any area is desired

Contract duration

• Working contract: September, 2008 - June, 2009
• Working hours: The regular workload will be 16 hours of classroom teaching from Monday to Friday per working week. There are 16 teaching weeks in each semester.

• Monthly salary: RMB4,800 for Bachelor Degree holder; RMB5,000 for Master's Degree holder and RMB5,500 for Doctor's Degree holder
