Don't accept a contract with Auqi school unless:
I. Travel time is included in your total working hours. Trust me.
Ii. They send you the relevant documentation to obtain a Z visa BEFORE you leave Australia. Do not accept an L or F visa with a pretty story about Chinese beauracracy.
Iii. Both parties must sign a contract for it to be legal.

I worked here for about two years, I even went to the effort to get a CELTA in an effort to get some job satisfaction. The boss of Auqi told the chinese staff that she paid for my CELTA training, which was a complete lie.Remember if you work for her once she (the boss) thinks she owns you and you won't be able to work elsewhere in the city of Qiqihar. Don't risk it! A totally unprofessional outfit.

Like many of you probobly know schools have a tendency to lie. I have found myself working here with out the proper documents, of course this is my own fault, but Id like to give the advice of not working in a private school in china. I think it is much better to work for a gov school. At least they will abide by the laws of China. But as things go teaching here has been a great experience.

Whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT work for this school. Many teachers have left this school because of break ins occuring and the school doing nothing about it, money missing from paychecks, promises made and broken etc.

Things have happened at this school that you wouldn't even believe. The Chinese staff have keys to your apartment and can enter whenever they please. It has happened when teachers have been sleeping or in the shower; and, money has gone missing. You are told that there is an onsite canteen or cafeteria, but the food is inedible. It makes even the Chinese students ill.

It's no doubt the best place on earth, but it has a lot of benefits (though now living over across the song hua river means you are way, WAY out of the action in central Harbin - but it's quieter and the air's better :) ). I worked there for 22 months, and was treated very well having progressed to a senior teacher there. Having worked very hard on sino-foreign relations when HSFLC was in difficult times I can see the rewards still from afar, though the management does seem to be on a bit of a rollercoaster at times. Remember, if I wasn't happy with the place I wouldn't have stayed so damn long! Haha (3 Contracts!)

Title: WARNING: Heng Feng in Harbin, China
|
Author: zoopeda
To save anyone the rejection of a contract offer (after my arrival here because they have simply hired too many teachers), having my visa revoked because the owner/principle refused to return my passport after applying for a visa (essentially as blackmail--I consequently had to physically steal my passport back from her) and then turned it into to be nullified upon firing me (with 2 days notice) because she has 12 teachers who each work 5 hours per week. This gross mismanagement is a travesty for teachers and students alike.

The school treated us with the utmost respect and enthusiam being a foreign teacher. The contract that was signed between the school and I was followed perfectly and they never once tried to rip us of. They provided us with an apartment that was fully furnished and were always willing to help us with whatever matter could possibly come up. I would strongly recommend working for this company as I had a wonderful time there.

1. Illegal working visas were issued (it was our responsibility to know, but we trusted them when we arrived).
2. Not being paid our salary because our boss didn¡¯t have enough money.
3. After renegotiation of our contract, having it breeched by our boss. He refused to incorporate our end of contract bonus into our weekly salary, as signed on the new contract. Then, he skipped town before our last payday.
4. Detainment by local authorities (who were our boss¡¯ buddies).
5. Our passports being held against our will.
6. And, in total, 1500 USD unpaid. We left 1.5 weeks early because we were tired of working for free and knew that he wouldn¡¯t honor our end of contract bonuses.

Author: Laurie Ottenbreit <shantilaurieo(at)hotmail.com>
Right now I have the police tracking down my "boss" to have her hand over my passport. I went to the police station this morning to ask for my passport because they had been processing my visa. The police lied to me and told me that they had sent it to Harbin (a town 12 hours from here) and that it would be back here next week. I told him that the passport is the property of the Canadian government and that it is mine¡not theirs. But he told me that I had no right!!!! Can you believe it!

Title: Roy English Language Training Center so-called Non Profit
|
Author: Ben Bollich <grossemontagne(at)hotmail.com>
One day Roy asked what I thought about beginning a non-profit for the local poor people. I said sure being that. He said we could start a non-profit for the poor school children of Jiagedaqi and have it financed by the wealthy west. It sounded great until his true agenda was unveiled. He said we would take donations and pocket some of it, and at the same time help out the children. He then went on to explain that we could dress the local kids in very filthy clothes and rub dirt on their face for the non-profit internet photo op.
I was and still am very disgusted and appalled by such barbaric ideas.
