Class schedule I had here was great - four days.,good students and five of seven classes were in my favorite- literature. The students were English teaching majors so that was great,too. The accomodations were not nearly as good- the heat was poor or non-existent(and it gets COLD in Henan)and Dean Li was not at all helpful.

My money was handed over to a cooking lady of EF there and was told to give me the money only before I leave my home after 30 days. Guess what happened. We waited for that lady and next day we came to know that the that lady ran away with my money. O god. My salary is gone.

The salary was always delayed, Classes were cancelled with no notice to me, and they charged me 30% of my whole salary every month as tax(should be 10% of the amount of money which deducts 4000).FinallyI left the school without the last month's payment and airfare compensation.

Title: NANYANG TEACHERS COLLEGE HAS NO TOILETS

My wife and I spent a horrific nine days at Nanyang Teachers College which failed to provide toilets that worked the entire time we were there. They would say things like that's your only problem and nobody's prefect(they said PRE-FECT) and we made foreign teachers cry(with a smile on the dean's face) I have been in five schools in China and seven in Asia- six were good but Nanyang was pure hell.
Note: This school no longer advertises that they have TOILETS - I guess my wife and I's threat to sue them at least changed their advertising, though I doubt it aeffected the plumbing!

The students are great and the staff really helps when needed. For instance I had my purse stolen in the city. Everything except my passport was in it. The liaison person, Coco, was extremely helpful in getting my residence permit back, she even loaned me money until I had access to my bank account again. Yes even my bankbook and passcard were stolen.

PRIVATE: That word says it all. Working in such a school is a lot different than in a public university or public school. They can do whatever they want and this school is no exception. The only good thing here is the accommodation.
Since I got here in July I expected my money back in July. It took 75 days to get my reimbursment.
Again according to the contract pay day is the 15th of the month. However their excuse was since school did not restart until August 16th, they could not pay us on the 15th so didn't get it until the 29th. In September there were no holidays or any changes to the school, but we didn't get paid until the 20th. In October got paid on the 16th.

Be careful of a teaching position at THE AFFILIATED HIGH SCHOOL OF PEKING UNIVERSITY,HENAN BRANCH.I was recruited to work there last year with promises of 6000 RMB salary per month only to find out that when I arrived and started working at the school the 1st months salary was only 4000 Rmb for 40hrs,when I COMPLAINED they said that previous teachers had been happy with that arrangement also during the winter time when the temperture was below zero there was no adequate heating and the food there was so revolting I suffered from food posioning. I have since found out that this is one of the worst schools in China to live and teach in also was not allowed off campus unless permission was given in writing, which was usually withheld according to the adminstration for security reasons. The writer has now returned to civilisation.

I have worked with Wancheng. I had many problems, heard many lies, had many clauses on the contract broken, had my salary docked for things that never happened, had not been reimbursed for work expenses I.e. travel.
Wancheng's main office in chongqing is run by inexperinced, unqualified, unprofessional people who are more concerned with how much money they can ILLEGALLY line their own pockets with, rather then their own teachers or clients.Wancheng underpay their teachers and overcharge their clients.
