Title: Davis Language is illegal
|
Author: Robert <rdwchina(at)tom.com>
My name is Robert and I worked for Davis Language Training in Tianjin, China in 2003. Be advised that this company is NOT legal. They tell prospective teachers that they have a license to hire foreigners and a license to operate a school. In fact they have neither. What the operator of this company DOES have is someone in the police dept. that can get a tourist visa, NOT a work visa.

This word,¡± training¡±, is a tricky word. In essence, you learn something. When a company is using this word, you expect that the company trains people for certain jobs. But in China, this word has lost its primary meaning: a training company is, in fact, a company that has the right (IF) to hire a certain number of teachers, legally speaking, and has contracts with schools. The teachers who are hired by a company are being sent everywhere, and, if the company has a good reputation, there should be no problem. But, if the company has a bad reputation, like this Davis training company from Tianjin, than this is hell.

Title: Stay away, Tianjin University of Commerce
|
Author: Jerry Kottom <nomadologist66(at)yahoo.com>
Stay away from this school. These are vile people. They admitted that they were happy with my teaching job but when it came to pay me my last two months salary they said they would not. With a straight face they said since it was not in writing they would not pay me. They also said they would pay 80% of all medical bills. I submitted my bills and the said, oh we do not pay those. I was out another months salary. The contract they give you is worthless and even if they had another it would mean nothing. Do not work for this school, they will screw you at some point.

They say please beware of the wolf in sheep clothing. This is the case here. Although you have a contract do not expect it to be completely honored to the letter for they will change it at their will.

Well, after coming back here I realize that all Chinese Uni's seem to be about the same. Nothing good, nothing bad. If you do not mind flying blind, not being included in ANY meetings for staff < and to be honest you don't want to go, they are not talking about students or education, they are talking about stupid projects to make the universities look better in the eyes of Beijing> If you like to have no guidance, and you do not mind living in a chemical factory polluted suburb of Tianjin, I say, hey why not.
