Language schools…BAD NEWS
Tim Grieves, canduyaman@hotmail.com….Xiaolan Town, Zhonshan City, PRC
I am 10-year veteran, if you would in China; but NEVER in my ten years have I had the experiences I have had these past 4 months.Xiaolan Town a subburb of Zhongshan is a beautiful place to live; but low on Chinese organizations working with foreign teachers.
BOND LANGUAGE INSTITUTE and OPEN LEARNING ENGLISH SCHOOL are two organizations ,loosely called, who employ foreigners. They care little for the person; and more for themselves. If you have nerves of steal, and , are easily immune to bureaucratic mind-changing, and impossible demands on your schedule, who knows….you might enjoy them. Their one and only concern is their pocketbook. Demand after impossible demand is placed on the teacher, with little concern whether it is "contractually" ordered, or not. At BOND, their "word is certainly not their bond, even though they say so in the advertising. Their word is what they interpret english to mean , not necessarily what a native-speaker may think it to mean. Having worked here for the past four months, I am ashamed that I am actually leaving a job before term, but in the same stead, rejoicing that I need not continue working under this immature, braggard-oriented group who supplies no help, no care, no support, UNLESS and only unless you make them do so.OPEN LEARNING SCHOOL,lol, is a loosely based part-time group that organizes and cancels classes whenever it suits them. If situations arise that you can not work they hound you until you submit, be it late in the afternoon, or early in the evening. They have no contracts with part-time teachers, therefore is an unforseen situation arise where you would like to be paid earlier than the norm…NO DICE! I could continue to elaborate but then you would be reading a manuscript not a letter. I can only advise….BEWARE OF BOND LANGUAGE INSTITUTE (in name only) The language they understand is suited to themselves and not the teacher. They care only for themselves and not the teaching, little is supplied in the course layouts or supplies….and YOU are only a pawn that is disposable, at best.
OPEN LEARNING SCHOOL is a low-key, newly established group, trying to make a ripple in the sea of language schools in the Zhonshan/Xioalan area. MY advise to any one looking for work in the beautiful country of China is to STICK WITH GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES, or, BUSINESSES…WITH A SIGNED CONTRACT……..and then hopefully you will not become disillusioned with China or her great people because of the ineptness found in those minimally educationed Chinese business people who call themselves "educators". I am moving on….to my first China love-story in the Island of Hainan…..I leave Zhonshan and Xiaolan wiser and hopefully more astute after the last four months. Good luck to all those seeking employment in China. Just BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE AND BE WARY of BOND LANGUAGE INSTITUTE nad OPEN LEARNING SCHOOL, located in Zhongshan City, Guangdong, PRC
