CHINA BASHERS - AN OLD REFRAIN
I have been in China for almost eleven years now. I can't claim to know anything about China or the Chinese. I do however know a few things about foreigners who come here. Some come with either excess baggage, a hidden agenda, or a mind set in cement. Others come to be of service to humanity.
I have met some very wonderful foreigners, who have risen to the occasion at every turn. I have met others who have suffered culture shock in the extreme. Unless one's love far excels the problems that exist in China, one will not really survive with all in tact. In fact, tact is really where it's at. There are no right or wrong answers.

What is disturbing is the ever growing ranks of China bashers, those malcontents and highly opinionated people who can't see the roses for the thorns. TIS (This is China) is so condescending that to comment only gives it credence; something I will not do.

I once knew a man, a Canadian, born and raised in the streets of Chengdu. He told me this quaint and interesting thing. If one visits China for a year, she/he could write a book about his/her experiences. If one lives in China for five years, he/she could write an newpaper or magazine article about her/his experiences. If one lives in China for ten years, one could write a paragraph about his/her experiences. If one lives in China for fifteen years, one could write a sentence about his/her experiences. If one lives in China for twenty years, one could write a word about her/his experiences. And if one lives in China twenty five years, one is speechless.
