Savage China
I taught in Shanghai for a 3 years and had my fair share of bad experiences there. However, I went out there with the intention of teaching and earning a living in a country that I expected to be vastly different from UK. Dealing with problems and bureacracy is always a pain and more so in a country where you are unsure of where you stand, but this has to remain a problem that stands on its own, without casting generalisations that only serve to reinforce the view that Westerners think they are 'better' and 'more civilised'.
I'm afraid I can only express my embarassment and disgust at this post. It is perfectly acceptable to voice frustrations and anger at treatment that you have received from unscrupulous managers or head teachers, but it is certainly NOT acceptable to generalise about a country and its people in terms of whether they are savage or civilised! This is the kind of attitude that has led to genocides and ethnic cleansing throughout history and truly you should be ashamed of yourself to benefit from living in a country whose inhabitants you so arrogantly picture as below you.

Respect works both ways and I suspect that your negative experiences have been largely shaped by the way in which you have put yourself out there.
