I write to second Wayne Fong's points. I have often encountered an attitude from other foreigners that their pay is not enough, that they deserve to be on so much more, etc.

I mean, why on earth come to China if all you care about is money? Chins is well known as a developing country, and we DO earn far more than a lot of Chinese people. My girlfriend was offered a measly 800 yuan a month for a full time (8.30 am to 6pm every day) job working in a clothes shop. A girlfriend of one of my friends spent two weeks translating an article from Chinese into English, she got paid something like 500 yuan for it.

I get 5300 yuan for a 16 hour week. Considering I'm only CELTA qualified, rather than having slugged it out for a year in English primary schools getting my PGCE, and considering I have no rent, bills, council tax, etc to pay for (free meals too - and they are reasonably good), this money is really rather good.

Check TEFL teachers' pay in London - my friend was doing tefl full time in London, she got something like 1000 pounds a month. Given the cost of rent and everything else in London, pay in China is clearly extremely good by comparison.

If you want to complain about money, either get a PGCE or find a job in Japan or South Korea! We are paid very well for a job that is basically a fun, enjoyable job.
