Harbin Normal University (That's Ha Shi Da)
DO NOT work at this school until it instils the same amount of TRUST in its employees as it does DEMAND it.
They seem to deem it acceptable to ignore new employees on commencing a new contract, disregard informing their employees of teaching times, exams, and any requirements whatsoever, and WITHHOLD PAY!

As a teacher who has been in Harbin for 3 years now, I am extremely familiar with the dealings of educational systems in this region and have had mainly only positive things to say about the ones I have worked at. Unfortunately I was delusional in thinking that a governmental institution such as a “university” would be better run, organised, and more familiar with foreign requirements than that of an up-and-coming private enterprise. I was WRONG! They are just the same money-making machines as any other institution, just that they hold more "guanxi" and ignore the laws, decrees and regulations protecting and governing foreign employment more than anywhere else. It’s great to teach university students, though the “universities” and their regard for such things as “examination criteria”, “PLAGIARSIM”, and “buying marks” shows why the international community is starting to treat degrees obtained from Chinese institutions in the same way as they do of those from places like India: Fake!

I am currently teaching at yet another university, and the same things are happening here as far as educational credibility goes, though the help and communication with those people working here is infinitely better than that of Harbin Normal University, plus they are actually trying to change things here for the better in my view.

So, all-in-all, AVOID HARBIN NORMAL UNIVERSITY!

PS: They deliver completely illegal and unenforceable threats of extradition, police involvement, and making it impossible for one to work in this country again, then pass it off as a “misunderstanding” .. I always laugh at this one :)
