| Judging from the English in these posts, I'm frankly amazed most of you are allowed to speak English, let alone actually teach it. Most foreign teachers in China are unqualified dossers, and most of the positions they fill are positions tailored for unqualified dossers. It should come as no surprise that these people get ripped off or insulted, given that they are the coals fuelling a substandard industry, an industry that couldn't survive without a ready supply of semi-literate foreign dolts. If, on the off chance, you are a qualified and experienced teacher, or if you hold a postgraduate degree from a good school, you would do best to apply for those jobs open only to applicants of your calibre. There are many institutions that will pay you well, treat you well and even sponsor academic research -- if you are the sort of person who deserves it. Granted, there are scams and rip-off merchants. However, in my experience of many years, the ones who get ripped off most are (1) the schools (Another DVD class, anyone?), and (2) unqualified and dissolute hacks who oughtn't to be here in the first place. Frankly, what do you expect from an employer who doesn't care whether you are qualified to do the job? Many of you complain about low standards here. I say: be grateful. If they put the standards up, they'd have to put you out. |
