| Yang En - An Excellent Experience | ||
| I have been reading with dismay several submissions criticising Yang-en University. I had the privilege of spending 2 years at Yang-en and found this to be one of the most positive and enriching experiences of my life. The few problems that occurred at Yang-en whilst I was there resulted entirely from the fact that a FEW - very few - of the foreign staff were like fish out of water and took every opportunity to blame their own character deficencies and shortcomings on the long suffering Yang-en adminstration.Contrary to some of the criticisms ( most of which are highly exagerrated and erroneous) I have read it was my experience that the Yang-en administration delivered on every promise and then some. By comparison to some other places in China their salaries and conditions were very generous. The Yang-en administration showed remarkable patience and restraint in handling several of the more extreme examples of outrageous behaviour by foreign teachers. Unfortunately it seems the more extreme misfits and 'angry at the world" people seem to use sites such as this one to air their grievances. This one sided presentation often gives a completely unbalanced viewpoint that is far from the truth. Not everything is perfect at Yang-en by any means - especially if all one does is compare it to conditions in ones home country. However, it is incredibly sad that so many people appear to visit China and do nothing but whine and complain. They are the losers - if they opened their eyes, ears and hearts they would undoubtedly be enriched by the generosity of spirit, the cultural wonders and the genuine friendships that are to be found in China.After all it is not as though all countries in the Western world can claim to be perfect ( especially at the moment). Yang-en and China is definitely not suited to holiday makers, malcontents or people who think they can impose their own values and change a system that is entrenched not only at Yang-en but across China. Yang-en and China, and particularly the wonderful students, deserve much better than that. I would most strongly recommend Yang-en to any suitable candidates who are prepared to work, fit into the system and enjoy China as China is. These people will be warmly and graciously welcomed and should thoroughly enjoy the rich culture and friendship of the region surrounding Majia and Quanzhou.
