response to tpr on the line
I have just signed a contract for another year with TPR in Zhuhai. Once again a disgruntled, terminated employee has made accusations against the school. I have a fondness for eccentrics, but I must disagree with this former teacher.
TPR is by no means perfect. It has many flaws. But it also has many dedicated teachers who offer a world of help to newcomers who are interested enough to take the help. However, we do not see "help" as supplying a disinterested teacher with last-minute filler activities in lieu of a lesson plan or even a passing interest or affection for the children.
The poster mentioned a commitment to education. Commitment involves preparation and a love of one's job.
The doublespeak mentioned will be found anywhere in China, and many other places in the corporate world.
I would, however, advise anyone not savvy in the ways of the Chinese to avoid giving them free hours of translation or marketing help, as did the original poster. No freebies will save you when parents and students complain about you for months.
