| I do enjoy China. | ||
| I came across with this company called Global Crossroads from Texas, USA. They were
suppose to set me up with a teaching job that not only paid about 4000 RMB a month, but had a nice room to live in for free, and pay for my return flight. I arrived 1 week before the course was to start, and I stayed in Beijing with my girlfriend. A few days before I was to start the program I phoned the placement center in Shijiuan (sp), and they had never even heard of me. I was mad, and shocked. I was far from home, and I couldn't come back since I was to stay for the year. Lucky for me my girlfriend is Chinese and was able to talk with the center. They did what they could to place me, but it was never for longer than a week, and I never got paid. They even told my girlfriend she couldn't come anywhere with me, since she was Chinese and I'm white. So she went to stay with family in Hangzhou. After a month of running around China,
using up all my money, I finally had to go to the U.S. Embassy to get help
coming back to America. I can only say, that you make sure you talk with the Chinese side of any project, not just the said you are from (as others in the center were also from Global Crossroads and in a bad spot). As of now, I am trying to go back to China to teach, or work again. My girlfriend has one more year of school to finish in Shanghai. I do enjoy China, and the people, but I only wish I had got a better placement center, and the American side of the center wasn't lazy. I hope that I can find a job once I'm in Shanghai in July...
