| Cheated and fooled | ||
| My first experience teaching oral English here in China was so misleading that it almost made me give up wanting to teach (and I have taught for many years in the U.S.A.). I am not writing this as a disgruntled "ex-employee", but as WARNING to other foreign teachers to be careful who they work for. Shu Tong Longman English Training Center, in Guangzhou, Huizhou, and Xin Yang, hired me on a one year contract, promising me monthly salary, accomodations, etc...the usual... Turns out they lied to me about everything, not only me, but the other foreign teachers who have also left this past month. They promised me a "monthly salary". After I had worked a month, they wanted to pay me much less because they said I did not work the total hours expected because they did not have enough lessons for me. They decided to pay me "hourly wages", and never telling me they were doing this until time to pay me, therefore paying me much less. They insisted it was "their policy", but there is nothing in the contract about "hourly wages", just a monthly salary. After two and a half months of arguing the spercifics of the contract, they told me that "actually the contract means nothing". Then they decided that because of so much disagreement, they decide to cancel my contract and let me go without notice or pay. The contract specifically states that "if contract is cancelled by either party, a one month's written notice must be given or two months salary". I received NOTHING, agin they told me that "the contract meant nothing". I was cheated, lied to, and fooled by Shu Tong Longman. They used me to advertise their school (saying "study with us, we have English teacher from America", they also had me do many "demo" classes in public schools and also made a commercial for TV with me without my getting any kind of compensation, nor did I give them any rights to use me for advertisement purposes. I learned all this after the fact. TEACHERS BEWARE OF SHU TONG LONGMAN. They lie, cheat, and take you for a fool. I know a number of other teachers that have workewd at Shu Tong Longman that will give you similar negative testimony. Send Message to Author |
