Homeland Recruiting opinions
keep seeing loads of jobs being posted by Homeland Recruiting. Anyone had any good/bad experiences with them? I can′t tell if their job turnover is ludicrously high or if it is just a BIG organisation.

Based in Shenzhen, China

Thanks,

Chris [2005-01-19, 03:38:00][ID: 1110-6025] Chris, schools in China are probably crooked.

Recruiting agencies in China are DEFINITELY crooked. They make their living from the desperation of less-desirable schools and from our ignorance.

Look around…the internet is loaded with horror stories about these places. I challenge you to find a significant number of good experiences with them, especially if you filter out the ones that seem to come from the managers of recruiting agencies.

Do yourself a favor…deal directly with the schools. You′ll probably get a better salary (since you aren′t sharing it with the agency) and have a slightly lower chance of being burned.

Despite what you may think, Chris, I′m not an inordinately dismal or pessimistic person. It can just be a real snake pit over here. I′d like to see you avoid the mistakes those of us who are already here have made.

Raoul Duke [2005-01-19, 22:04:00][ID: 1110-6040] I am an ESL teacher in China. Recently, I was in a crunch when my employer here ran into "financial difficulties". Homeland Recruiting came recommended to me by another teacher whom they had placed. I called Tim, whom I believe is the owner, and told him where I wanted to work (meaning in what provinces), what I expected for pay, etc., etc. He was polite, helpful and very responsive. I find Raoul′s comments about just a little bit too caustic. Yes, there are bad recruiters in China, and there are also a few good ones. It′s just a matter of getting experience, like anywhere else. When I was in San Francisco, I used many good recruiters to help me find jobs and many bad recruiters. It′s a universal experience.

Observer [2005-01-25, 04:07:00][ID: 1110-6055] HB, if a good recruiting agency pops up here in China then no one will be happier about it than I am. I hope Homeland works out for you.

I′ve heard a couple of good agency experiences…and hundreds of bad ones. I′m just stating the odds here. If I am caustic about recruiters in China, it′s only a reflection of how hair-raisingly bad many of the accounts I′ve heard have been. When one hears enough stories about skimmed pay, confiscated passports, police harassment, etc. with no significant numbers of positive accounts, the recruiters tend to become guilty until proven innocent.

Raoul Duke [2005-01-25, 19:58:00][ID: 1110-6056] Oh, I almost forgot…there are also the many people who have been promised jobs in Guilin or Xiamen who found themselves railroaded to Qiqihar or Hohhot.

Again, please forgive me if this makes me paranoid about the agencies.

Raoul Duke [2005-01-25, 20:01:00][ID: 1110-6057] To answer the questions regarding Homeland Recruiting:

1. Yes, Tim did indeed produce two job offers for me, in provinces and at salaries that I requested. He also endeavoured to answer all of my questions and each time that I had a supplemental question, he contacted the school in question.

2. He was also kind enough to help a friend of mine whose boss here was the boss from hell and whose qualifications were rather minimal. He did manage to find her a position also.

3. Yes, there are plenty of bad recruiters here, but the ipso facto logic of condemning the entire lot is, well, just not good practice. As I said, I know plenty of dubious recruiters in the United States.

4. As for applicants being routed to the confines of Inner Mongolia after being promised Beijing, yes, I have had that happen to several friends of mine, too. And yes the agency that did that is often held up as a model agency….strange, isn′t it????

Kind regards,

H.B.

I hope they′re really that good. A decent recruiting agency here would be a good thing for us all.

I′m sorry, but if 99.999% of the news one hears about a group of companies consists of horror stories, then tarring the entire group with the same brush doesn′t seem all that unreasonable. I′ve never heard anything from the States that compares with what I′ve heard about China, either in extent of abuse or proportion of companies involved in it.

Harbin, at least, I do like. Have fun there!

Raoul Duke [2005-01-26, 18:12:00][ID: 1110-6062] Yes, but did you TAKE one of the jobs that Tim "offered" you? An explicit yes or now would be sufficient.

Observer [2005-02-05, 14:51:00][ID: 1110-6106] Dear Observer,

Who do you think you are with this tone of yours? I answered the question sufficiently for anyone with a basic command of the English command to understand and I am offended by the tone and manner of your answer. So frankly, I am NOT going to answer your question. I don′t respond to be berating very well, particularly not by anyonymous, immature cyberpunks. Is that clear? Frankly, I think an apology is in order. I was providing reliable, considered information here to benefit all and if it is not good enough for you, well, then tooooo bad. And frankly, if this were a private message, I wouldn′t be event this polite.

Harbin Bound [2005-02-07, 13:43:00][ID: 1110-6117] Harbin bound is a loser; - that much is for sure.
