| English for Secretaries course material wanted | ||
| Hi, I am an English teacher who would like to organize an ′English for Secretaries′ course (beginners) Can you advise me on teaching material please? Many thanks, Bill [2004-08-26, 03:39:00][ID: 910-5013] There′s the ′True to Life′ series for a general English which goes from starter all the way through to upper-int, if I remember correctly, and maybe something like Business Basics for those who are not complete beginners and want a more business based English. Hope this is a good starting reference although I am sure there′s many other materials you can use. Bobito [2004-08-27, 10:05:00][ID: 910-5029] Write the material and don′t be lazy. You can use your own mind and cater to the needs of the students. All you need is a computer, a printer and photocopier. Some companies, language schools and many universities in Asia will have their native English speaking teachers write the books, whether it is ESL for A-B/B-A conversation practices, or ESL for secretaries, or ESL grammar practice or almost any other topic under the sun. Then they will claim the text as their own because they PAID YOU to develop the text while employed by them. You can′t take it with you nor will you ever be able to collect a percentage of the profit long after they have had their copy shop and book binding department turn your loose leafed sheets of paper into a required text made mandatory reading by their students and for sale in the university book store. What I am talking about here is hundreds of ESL students being required to buy your textbook each quarter, semester or trimester, year after year, and you collect nothing. That could be the equivelent to thousands of dollars over a period of years. Just walk into the university book store and see how many other ESL texts, written by current or formerly employed ESL teachers, are on the book shelves for sale as required reading by the school′s ESL students. The teachers who wrote those textbooks, and whom have now moved on will never see one red cent of profits earned. Former ESL Writer [2004-09-27, 20:51:00][ID: 910-5366] |
