a typical advert for teaching in china.
a typical advert for teaching in china. Shoddy. 3000RMB=about 375US $ a month. 50 RMB per hour overtime=about 6.25 US $ per hour.

"you will obey yhte laws and regulations of the PRC." yeah. How can we agree to follow something we don′t know about? HOW ABOUT POSTING A LINK TO SYNOPSIS OF THE MOST PERTINENT LAWS?

They′ll reimburse you for your airticket one year (or more) after you purchase it. Should you be forced to leave early you can expect no reimbursement.

They provide (unintelligible) 1000 RMB per year for vacation. That′s 125 US$! Don′t spend it all in one place. Yes, in china you will often be required to pay the foreigner rate instead of the local rate. Many of the cheap hotels won′t take you in and you′ll be left with few choices but the expensive hotels. No, 1000 RMB just don′t go as far as it used to.

Yes, you WILL be attending teacher training during the holidays. Is it a holiday if you have to work? Yes. Want to see china? Wait for your holiday to look around…oh wait, you have mandatory training. Nevermind. Enjoy the five kilometers around your school because that is about all you′ll have time to see.

It is in hebei? Look at the map. What a wonderful locale.

The school will pay for the medical insurance but you will pay for the medicine.

Typical chinese mendicant mentality: come on over laowai, give to us but take away nothing of value in return for a year of your life.

Until china can pay international wages why bother?

Ben there [2004-08-14, 00:06:00][ID: 882-4868] Ian,

Should have posted in the jobs board port, not here!

"ben there".. At least the guy is honest. He is letting the teacher know in advance. It becomes the teacher′s, his or her choice, whether or not to accept the job.

MY GOD, I have just re-read your post. The tenor of ugliness, the negativity of the prose of your post can only mean one thing, BIRCH in Japan!

O.M.G. :( :( :( [2004-08-14, 11:59:00][ID: 882-4876] 3000 RMB per month is just plain insulting, even in a grimy, boring little backwater city like Shijiazhuang, even for only 12 hours a week.

′2 weeks for the teachers′ training program during some of the paid holidays′ translates to "We aren′t really going to pay you for holidays. If we can′t force you into a classroom over Spring Festival, we′ll force you to endure some useless phony-baloney ′training′ through most of it so we can justify having to to continue paying you. God forbid we should actually appear to be giving you something, and God especially forbid we should pay you anything extra and do this program during the term, outside of classroom hours."

Contemptuously low pay and abusive treatment…many of the warning beacons that mark what′s wrong with ESL education in China. For God′s sake, please don′t fall for sucker jobs like this one. You can do much, MUCH better than this with just a little effort. Schools pull nonsense like this because we ignorant foreigners don′t know any better, and the schools can get away with it. As long as it continues to work, this situation will never change.

Please, I beg you, don′t be a chump. Don′t take jobs like this. Run, little fella! Run like the wind!

Raoul Duke [2004-08-14, 14:09:00][ID: 882-4884] O.M.G.- no, I am not BIRCH. Just an old hand taking advantage of a misplaced ad to make hay while the sun shines.

As you know school ads are usually safely sorted away from forums so that they are kept out of the line of fire. This one put himself in a forum- so let′s talk about it.

The job offered is severely lacking in several aspects. As raoul mentioned one can do better, much better elsewhere.

Ben there [2004-08-14, 19:18:00][ID: 882-4887] Yes, definitely ignore this job….3000 is a pathetic insult, particularly when combined with all the other "conditions"…and don′t get sucked in by.." this is a good wage compared to Chinese wages" Look elsewhere, please.

Gingermeggs [2004-08-15, 17:00:00][ID: 882-4913] Thinsk! Some people may have enough money where the 3,000 is not an issue.

$Indepently Wealthy$ [2004-09-03, 14:18:00][ID: 882-5106] Yeah a job like this should be considered only for "Charity Work" not for an actually job to make a living off of. I′ve considered doing this type of stuff for charity before, but I don′t like getting sucked in for 10months of my life.
