ABC English Training Center Legit?
Having read what Eric from Canada had to say about the ABC English Training Center I was put off a placement I had with what I was told was ′one of the ten best English schools in China′. They have a professional looking website, but as it′s in Chinese it isn′t much help to me in ascertaining what the school is really like.

Anyone had any experience of it or heard anything? If I get a Work Visa before leaving I will still go ahead with it, as it would have been authorised by the Government and be legit.

Josie [2004-05-13, 00:45:00][ID: 672-3531] Hey Brian, Mkultra, k, and the rest of you. Why don′t you get to work and help Josie out here instead of dribbling on continually about non-related TEFL issues. Spot on boys, can you offer some real advice to a would be teacher without a political or religious agenda? Or, are you all speechless when teachers put out a call for practical help?

Miss Dee [2004-05-14, 05:17:00][ID: 672-3550] Miss Dee I for one appreciate your comments, but I don′t see how I can be particularly helpful. Josie is enquiring about a school in China - I am in Taiwan. As other posters on this board have noted, this board has been corrupted by a certain individual, but a look through previous posts will see that I do offer information on topics that I know about. K is the same in offering good quality advice on certain topics of which he has a knowledge. Please don′t group us with the nutter, who will soon tire and disappear. I don′t know what else to offer as I know nothing about the school that Josie is posting about.

Brian [2004-05-14, 14:45:00][ID: 672-3558] Josie-

Contact the school by email and ask:

1.) How many native English-speakers are currently on staff.

2.) Then express your interest in working there with the tag that you would like the email addresses of all (10 or 15) of the teachers working there. You can email the teachers and perhaps get some idea of what the teaching conditions currently are.

3.) If they refuse to provide you with your legitimate request for information or if they seem to be balking in any way, avoid them.

Follow your intuition!

Good luck.

Jack of all Trades [2004-05-19, 02:30:00][ID: 672-3613] Having worked with Eric from Canada, I would take what is said about ABC with a grain of salt. I would research it yourself before making a judgement. I don′t know anything about this school, but I do know about Eric and another company he has made claims about.

Eric has been in Shanghai less than a year and has already worked for two companies, and posted in here that they′re both to be blacklisted. If you knew anything about this man, and read his claims, you would find more holes in them than a block of swiss cheese.

This site seems useful enough, but you must be careful when reading of people′s experiences. They might not be accurate. What the site should do is contact the companies involved before allowing the people to post about them. This way, the company can respond, as to avoid ficticious, somewhat crazy comments being made, as has happened here.

Again, I don′t know about ABC, but Pacican is a pretty good company to work for. Everyone that worked with Mr. Eric (both Chinese people in the company and the English teachers from Canada) thought Eric was just a little … well … I′m trying to find a nice word, but can′t so … he was nuts.

Teachers from Canada [2004-05-30, 00:05:00][ID: 672-3721] Brian, the "nutter" you speak of will one day, via his own posts, hang himself. Give it time. It is like a slowing growing cancer. It feeds upon the host until it kills itself.
